How to get to Bimini and Grand Bahama by ferry and what you need to know
New requirements effective in June 2020
No passenger will require a Bahamas health visa after June 19, 2022.
Every passenger who is completely immunized will no longer have to take a test.
Before going to The Bahamas, anyone over the age of 2 who hasn’t been vaccinated will have to get either a negative RT-PCR test or a rapid antigen test that was taken no more than three days (72 hours) before travel and show the negative test results at check-in.
On the day of travel, passengers will need to bring the results of their COVID test and/or proof of their vaccinations (the original card). The government of the Bahamas has to ask for this. If you don’t have the right travel documents, you might not be allowed to leave.
Children under the age of 2 don’t have to take the tests.
*At the moment, you don’t need a COVID test or vaccination to enter Florida by ferry.
May 31, 2022: Latest update from the Bahamian government about people taking the day trip from Fort Lauderdale to the Bahamas (both Bimini and Grand Bahama). People who only stay in the Bahamas for one day don’t have to show a health visa when they arrive at the port, but they do have to show a negative result from a rapid antigen test.
All other passengers who stay in the Bahamas for at least one night must show their health visa when they arrive in the country.
As of May, the Bahamian government will no longer require Balearia Caribbean passengers on a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama to have a health visa. However, they will still need a negative RAPID test.
With this new plan from the permanent secretary of the Bahamas government, more people will be able to take a one-day trip to either Bimini or Grand Bahama or to the United States.
Balearia Caribbean told us on May 23 that this new rule will apply to all passengers traveling between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini and Fort Lauderdale and Grand Bahama, in both directions.
Notice that Balearia Caribbean continues to apply all health visa requirements to passengers who spend at least one night in the Bahamas or Florida.
Describe what you need to do to visit Bimini, Grand Bahama, and the other islands of the Bahamas, depending on your vaccination status. The travel requirements have been updated. There are rules about how to get into the Bahamas.
The health situation in the Bahamas or the United States could cause these rules and responsibilities to change. Please go to the websites of the US Ministry of Health, the Bahamas Ministry of Health, or the Balearia Caribbean Ministry of Health to get the most up-to-date information.

New schedule for the Balearia Caribbean ferry
Balearia Caribbean has changed when its ferries leave from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Bimini and Grand Bahama for Easter week in March (in the Bahama Islands). Here is a picture of what the new Balearia Caribbean schedule looks like.

In March, the ferry services between the United States and Bimini and Freeport Grand Bahama underwent some changes thanks to Balearia Caribbean, a shipping company based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In particular, the trip from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini on March 2, which usually departs in the morning, left at 2:00 pm and arrived at 4:00 pm instead. This change was only temporary

If you want to take a trip to the Bahamas this summer, it’s now easier to find out when ferry tickets prices are dynamic now. This information, which already includes the months of December and some days in the rest of the new year, also lets you plan your purchase and get ready for the Christmas holidays better after Thanksgiving.

What is Memorial Day?
Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States that is always celebrated on the last Monday of May. This day is a holiday to honor the men and women who died while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
A little bit of Memorial Day’s past In the middle of the 19th century, after the Civil War between the Confederates and the Unionists, Decoration Day was started to honor those who had died during the war. This date became a federal holiday in 1971, and on this day, people pay tribute to all the people who died while serving in the military.
On Memorial Day, it is very common for families and military members to visit cemeteries or memorials and take part in parades all over the country.
It’s the unofficial start of summer for people in the United States.
If you want to do something special with your family on Memorial Day, plan a trip to Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, where everything is included.

Dynamic Pricing Meaning
Generally, dynamic pricing is fair. All business is based on supply and demand; dynamic pricing allows you to fine-tune your pricing to match these market forces.
In a nutshell, dynamic pricing means that businesses can adjust their prices for products or services depending on factors like how many people want it, the time of day, or even what the competition is doing. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where both the customer and the business feel happy!
From the April season on, the price of the Balearia Caribbean ferry will go up
Balearia Caribbean, the company that runs the ferry service from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to the islands of Bimini and Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, told us in a letter dated March 30, 2022, that oil and gas prices are driving up their operational costs, which is hurting their business model. As a result, Balearia Caribbean has been forced to raise operational fees and taxes, as well as impose a fuel surcharge on both passengers and cargo.
$10 Fuel Surcharge per passenger
$20 Fuel Surcharge per cargo piece
This price increase will affect all of Balearia Caribbean’s routes: dynamic pricing
- Fort Lauderdale to Bimini
- Fort Lauderdale to Freeport (Grand Bahama)
- Bimini to Fort Lauderdale
According to Balearia Caribbean, prices will be added to the total taxes and fees for each passenger’s reservation. Remember that if you change the reservation date, the rate will change, and the customer will have to pay the difference.
This means that taking a ferry to the Bahamas for a vacation will cost more starting April 1. If you want to go to the Bahamas for Easter or Memorial Day but haven’t made a reservation yet, you still have time and can save money by doing so. Remember that if you book ahead of time, you can save money that you can spend in the Bahamas.
Use our Booking button to make your reservation right now, and then worry about what bikini to wear in the Bahamas.
This price increase will affect all of Balearia Caribbean’s routes

Day trip to Bahamas

The Bahamas are only 60 miles away from Miami and the southern coast of Florida (58.8 miles to Bimini and 96.7 miles to Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island). Day trip on a ferry or a cruise
If you’re trying to decide between a one-day ferry trip or a one-day cruise to the Bahamas, we’ll tell you what we think are the pros and cons of each.
Ferry trip to the Bahamas for one day, pros: It only takes two hours to get from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini and three hours to get to Grand Bahama for a day trip. By taking a ferry to the Bahamas, you can spend as much time as possible in Bimini (6 hours) or Grand Bahama (5 hours).
Pros: On cruise ships, there are usually pools, bars, and entertainment. Your trip starts as soon as you leave Miami for the Bahamas. Most ferries don’t have pools and only have a small cafeteria.
Pros: When you go on a cruise, you can buy an “all-inclusive” package that includes drinks. You can get your drinks as soon as you get on the cruise.
Almost every day, you can take a ferry to the Bahamas for a day trip. some days to Bimini and some days to Grand Bahama. One-day (really one-night) cruises leave less often and have fewer dates to choose from. Also, you can take a one-day trip to the Bahamas on the ferry any time of the year, whereas cruise ships only do these short trips (of one or two nights) when it’s not high season.
A one-day trip to Bimini (or the Bahamas) by ferry or cruise is very different, as you can see. When choosing where to go on your next vacation in the Bahamas, you need to think about more than just the price. But most importantly, don’t give up on your Bahamas vacation, whether you’re staying at a resort like the Hilton in Bimini or going on a cruise in Nassau or Exuma.
Book your one-day trip to the Bahamas as soon as possible and get the best prices and offers. Day trip to Bahamas from Miami (Fort Lauderdale)
